tuesday’s tip: engagement sessions
I love engagement sessions. It is as simple as that—and I think you should have one, ha ha. When I was getting married I avoided an engagement session like it was the plague because I thought that engagement sessions were only for people who wanted to post an announcement in the local paper and the shots would all be very posed and formal. But engagement sessions aren’t like that anymore.
Engagement sessions are fun and are a fabulous way for a couple to get to know their photographer and to feel more comfortable having their photograph taken. It is also a chance for the photographer to get to know how you photograph best and plan accordingly for the portraits taken on the day of the wedding.
Engagement sessions can also be exciting and different. Although you will cherish the photos taken on your wedding for the rest of your life, you are limited on the day of your wedding by time and location. However, at an engagement session you can be creative and fun, shooting in a location that means a lot to you as a couple or with people or pets who mean the most to you. By shooting in a familiar or favorite location and in non-wedding attire, the photos taken at the engagement session reflect your daily life as a couple and are a wonderful way to record your relationship.
Already married? Are you like me and sorry you didn’t have an engagement session? Think about a lifestyle session. If you are a couple in love or a growing family, you don’t need a special reason to have your photo taken. A lifestyle session is a fabulous way to record your life and all the important moments that happen between the big events.
But first, here are a few photos from some favorite engagement sessions:

Many couples choose to display images from their engagement session at their wedding. I offer custom designed guest books that incorporate photographs from your engagement session and are a fabulous way for your guests to leave their well wishes for you on your wedding day.

Totally agreed, Melissa. I avoided our complimentary engagement session like the plague too. Why did I want cheesy photos of us? Soooo not true anymore. This is a great post.
